Description: In February 2010 the City of Mobile, Mobile Gas Service Corp., Mobile Area Water and Sewer System and Mobile County Revenue Commission contracted with Sanborn to perform update planimetric and contour mapping of Mobile County AL. The Countywide update mapping area consisted of approximately 1143 sq miles and divided into Area A, Area B and Area C. Area A and Area B mapping consisted of updating the County's 2006 1"=100' scale planimetric features and the County's 2006 two-foot contour interval source data. Area C consisted of updating the County's 2006 1"=200' scale limited planimetric features and the County's 2006 five-foot contour interval source data. Sanborn acquired digital aerial photography of Mobile County on February 25, February 28, March 30 and April 15, 2010 utilizing a Zeiss/Intergraph large format Digital Mapping Camera DMC01-046. The four band imagery was acquired at a nominal 5000 feet above mean terrain. The flight misssions for the 1143 square mile project consisted of fifty-three (53) flight lines in a north to south heading with a 60% forward overlap and a 30% side overlap. The Mobile downtown tall building one square mile area was acquired by three additional flight lines at 80% forward overlap and 60% side overlap to reduce building lean. Flight lines 51, 52 and 53 were flown at 80% forward overlap and 60% side overlap over the downtown one square mile area. Rowe Surveying and Engineering Company, Inc. of Mobile performed the ground control surveying work and submitted a comprehensive Survey Report dated April 16, 2010. The land surveying work consisted of recovering and targeting twenty-five (25) existing National Geodetic and City of Mobile published control stations and establishing and targeting twenty-five new control stations in the rural parts of Mobile County. The newly established twenty-five (25) control stations were monumented with a survey disk set in a mass of concrete and stamped MMC 105 through MMC 1074. The land surveying methods and accuracies were perfomed in accordance with the Federal Geodetic Control Subcommittee (FGCS) specifications for a Second-Order Class I GPS control survey resulting in a minimum accuracy of 1:50,000 and referenced to the Alabama State Plane Coordinate System (West Zone, NSRS07), and expressed in U.S. Survey feet. The vertical values were referenced to NAVD 88 with elevations established from ellipsoidal heights by use of Geoid 2009. GPS observations were performed on February 17th, 18th, 25th, 26th and March 3rd of 2010. Fully Aerial Aerial Triangulation (FAAT) was completed on April 30, 2010 and consited of two blocks. Block number 1 consisted of 4179 northern images and Block number 2 consisted of 2765 souhern images. Blocks 1 and 2 included common ground control points and overlapping images and were photogrammetrically tie to each other. Intergraph Image Station Automated Triangulation (ISAT) software was utilized to perform the FAAT. Intergraph SSK photogrammetric workstations, Intergraph Feature Collection software and MicroStation were utilized for the stereoscopioc collection process of updating of 2006 desiginated planimetric features and DEM mass points and breaklines. The 2006 DEM and contracted planimetric features that had changed due to site development or roadway construction since 2006 were updated to reflect the 2010 photography date conditions. The contracted Specified Features for Area A and Area B and the ALDOR Specifications for Area C were updatedand delivered on external hard drive to the City of Mobile, Mobile Gas Service Corp., Mobile Area Water and Sewer System and Mobile County Revenue Commission.
